SAME DAY RATE:

Rush/Emergency Service

These prices are based in part by the editor of guitarrepairshop.com.
My price list is actually less than prices that are listed in 'The Guitar Repair Blue Book'.

The main factor in my pricing is based on more than a decade of experience here in Utah with a quality reputation which is reflected in the craftsmanship of the end product. Although this is a 'Labor of Love' for myself, I still have to live in the practical world. Bearing in mind that:

1. A full time repairmen can have as much training time and investment in tools as any mechanic.
2. Shop overhead costs are on par with those of any other profession.
3. If you take your instrument to a professional shop, expect to pay professional rates and expect professional work.

This list reflects standard professional rates. Within given circumstances, some prices may vary due to the variance of organic and mechanical products and their state of disrepair.

For some extensive restoration jobs, expect to pay an hourly rate.

ACOUSTIC

SET UP: $75.00 (includes new strings):
Includes truss rod adj. Pickup adj., saddle height adj., re-radius saddle, oil fingerboard, string install clean and polish. This is an estimate. Complications could necessitate a higher price.

NEW NUT: $125.00 - $150.00 plus cost of blank.
Fit nut blank to shelf, measure and cut height, radius and sting angle then cut and fine tuned measurements and finish shaped saddle. Mark 1/8" in and divide to find correct spacing between strings, mark spacing and cut slots so string sits halfway in slot. If your guitar has worn frets, a bowed neck, or an ill-fitting saddle, expect additional cost to correct these problems. Many repair people will not install a new nut if other problems are not also addressed.

NEW SADDLE: $75.00 - $100.00 plus cost of blank.
Same qualifications as with "new nut". I cut blank to proper thickness and length. Once it fits in saddle slot correctly I measure proper height and radius. I then cut, round and fine polish.

INTONATED SADDLE: $175.00 and up.
I cut and sand blank to proper thickness and then to proper length. I measure height off of old saddle measure radius and cut saddle height. I then measure the point on the saddle where the string plays in tune most consistently and mark spot. I measure each string and then remove bone until I have a high point at the correct intonation point for that scale length, gauge and tuning. (Formula for intonation is length x mass x tension = intonation).

RE-GLUE BRIDGE: $150.00 + Remove and refit old bridge. Only minor touchup is included.

REPLACE BRIDGE: $175.00 (and up) + cost of factory made bridge, with an additional charge for a new saddle when necessary (see above).

HANDMADE BRIDGE: $185.00 and up, by quote.
Handmade bridges may be necessary for certain instruments, and custom bridge replacements.

REPLACE TUNERS: $35.00 and up.
Seems like a simple job, but can be fraught with nuanced complications.

FRET LEVELING ("Filing", "Dressing"...): $150.00 and up.
Worn or uneven frets can he filed level in many cases, if there will remain enough height on the fret to suit the customer. Frets must be lowered to the height of the lowest pit that can be found. Sometimes, replacing the most worn frets is appropriate.

RE-FRET: $400.00 to $450.00 (includes fret level).
Depends on how much work needs to be done to fingerboard. Add $60 for fretboards with binding. Individual frets $25.00 plus leveling and or set up costs in some cases. New nut or saddle may be necessary. Shop minimum may also apply.

NECK PRESS: $150.00 and up.
Necks can be fussy and may need to be manipulated more than once. I charge $90.00 to start and then $50.00 for each press that needs to be done after that. Most often a one time shot, but really warped necks may need two to three manipulations. I have saved many a junk guitar with this little job!

NECK RE-SET: $400.00 and up.
Remove neck. Re-cut heel/body angle to correct high action. Replace neck. This process may require a new saddle ($50.00 + blank extra). Additional fretwork and bridgework may also be necessary.

CRACK REPAIR: $30 per inch or by quote (particularly for shattered areas).
Includes glue and touchup with appropriate finish. Cleating (installing small patches of wood inside guitar to reinforce repair) as necessary. Repairs often not invisible, but finish should be level.

HEADSTOCK CRACK: $150.00 and up for repairs with basic touchup, by quote.
Repairs are often not invisible, but the finish should come out smooth. Repair can be made invisible (or near) depending on the type finish. The cost for this will be at least $300.00.

INSTALL "UNDER SADDLE" PICK UP: $75.00 - $150.00.
Expand endpin hole to accommodate jack. Wire pickup to pre-amp and jack. Fit and re-size old saddle for proper action and contact with pickup. This may require a new saddle and re-rout of saddle slot (additional). There are other variables relating to pre-amps, which must be individually quoted. Condition of bridge and neck angle may be factors in the appropriateness of an 'under the saddle' pickup.

ELECTRIC

SET UP: $75.00 (includes new strings).
Includes truss rod adj., pickup adj., saddle height adj., nut slot adj., trem adj., oil fingerboard, tighten tuners, restring, clean and polish. Complications could necessitate a higher price.

NEW NUT: $75.00 - $150.00 + blank.
If your guitar has worn frets, a bowed neck, or an ill-fitting saddle, expect additional cost to correct these problems. Multiple problems will make a repair ineffective if all surrounding problems are not corrected as well.

INSTALL LOCKING/ROLLING NUT: $150.00 and up (plus part).

REPLACE TUNERS: $35 and up.
Seems like a simple job, but can be fraught with nuanced complications.

FRET LEVELING ("Filing", "Dressing"...) On a normal fretted guitar $150.00 and up (depending on how fussy the frets and neck are):
Worn or uneven frets can be filed level in many cases, if there is enough height on the fret to suit the customer (and practical playability). Frets must be lowered to the height of the lowest pit that can be found. Sometimes, replacing the most worn frets is appropriate. Guitars with severe fret wear, basses and other guitars with jumbo frets are $200.00

HEADSTOCK CRACK: $150.00 and up for repairs with basic touchup, by quote.
Repairs are often not invisible, but the finish should come out smooth. Repair can be made invisible (or near) depending on the type finish. The cost for this will be at least $300.00.

FINISH TOUCH UP: $75.00 and up, by quote.

REFINISH: $450.00 and up.

DIAGNOSE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM: $45.00 minumum, which can be applied to the repair price.
Most shops will charge a minimum to diagnose electrical problems if work is not performed. Time and expertise used for diagnosis is time lost from performing work for other customers.

REPLACE JACK: $40.00 + cost of part extra.

REPLACE PICKUP: $45.00 and up per pickup

REPLACE VOLUME/TONE POT: $40.00 (and up) depending on number of soldered lugs.

ROUT NEW PICKUP SLOT: $75.00 (and up) PLUS 'install pickup' price.

REPLACE SWITCH: $45.00 plus part.
